You are good at something, stop lying to yourself. You’re good at breaking down comic book plots, cooking ramen perfectly, making your friends happy, knowing the time without looking at a clock, getting the perfect ending at RPG’s, or figuring out the twist ending to movies. Don’t let society tell you your talents are meaningless because they don’t serve an economical purpose. Your talents reflect your interests and passions, and what’s important to you is important.

This is New York day 4,5, and 6
The last two days of orientation was fun. We had the street fair on the last day of orientation and that was pretty cool. Got free food, froyo, cotton candy, and activities like the tattoo, instaphoto, and the caricatures. It was a nice day with good music. I didn’t stay the whole time. I decided to go walk around that area to get to know it more. I also want to do some shopping eventually. After that I went back to the dorms. At 8 that night we had a floor meeting that made my roommates and I miss part of the VMA’s. As for today, today was the first day of classes. I found that I had a class with one of the closer friends that I’ve made so far. I really like her because she has a personality and likes/interests that are just like mine. I actually have 2 classes with her (Upper right corner picture). We have English Comp and first year experience together. We also have a huge break between english comp and our next class so we hung out in a study room in the library. After that we split. After that was my math through business app. and I found out that one of my roommates had the same class as me. That class seems very dull and boring so far. Right after that my last class for the day was fashion fundamentals. I’m excited to learn things in that class because honestly I don’t know that much about fashion things. I know some things but not a lot like some of these band name wearers. Oh well but that’s what college is, learning. So far things are working out well for me here. I’m not scared, I miss my family of course but I have not cried over them yet, and I’m making good friends here so far. I’m glad people that I’ve met haven’t fit the stereotype of the bitch snob who thinks they are better than everyone else. Until next post!

any advice for incoming college freshman?

snorlaxatives:

sure why not!!!

  • first of all don’t buy books through your schools bookstore unless it’s absolutely necessary!!!! cheggalibris, or even amazon are some nice places where you can buy/rent textbooks for much cheaper. also here’s a post that has links to various places where you can possibly find online versions of textbooks
  • exercise!!! even if it’s just a walk around campus or some crunches or push ups in your dorm. you’re gonna be eating a lot of unhealthy food (at least at my school we just have a food court with a bunch of fast food restaurants) so if you don’t exercise you’re definitely gonna gain the dreaded freshman 15
  • show up to class early, at least for the first few weeks. maybe like 10-15 minutes early. your professors will take notice that you’re early and ready to learn and they’ll be impressed
  • don’t skip class!!! i know there’s a lot more freedom in college than there is in high school and it makes it soooo easy to just skip class. the temptation is always there but trust me it pays off to just go to class. some of my classes last year offered extra credit in class and only people who showed up could get it. obviously it’s okay to skip class every once in a while if you need to but don’t make it a habit!
  • give yourself ‘you’ time. maybe every sunday night get some snacks and watch a movie or just do something relaxing!!! college can get really really stressful at times so every once in a whole you gotta just take a little time to unwind
  • make lots of friends, drink, party, have a good ass time, but don’t lose sight of why you’re at college in the first place which is to get an education. so have as much fun as you want just don’t let the fun take priority over your school work

New York day 3

Bonding with my roomie by doing her makeup

So today was pretty good. I scheduled my classes, went to a funny sexual awareness program, made another friend, and bonded with my room mates more, as you can see from the link above. I’ve also learned that they’re both 20. I told them that I was 18 and they said I was just a baby and that they were corrupting me. They were talking about fake id’s and how I should get one because it adds to the experience. I’m not going to get one right now but maybe eventually who knows. Right now it’s about school. Speaking of school, my schedule’s pretty good. My busiest day would be Wednesday. However I’m hella scared because I’m not used to going back and forth from the classes yet. It’s like high school freshman year, not knowing where your classes are, but like times 100. I need to get this down. Tomorrow I’m going to have an early day, meeting my dad to set up my bank here, and then more orientation, but ending the day with a boat cruise. I’m pretty psyched. I’m just intimidated by how experience my roomies are. But I know I’m not turning back now. This is the best choice for me and me and others have made sacrifices for this. I was totally going to say something but I forgot. Anyways, when we were done for the day and I returned to the dorms, I settled down, ate a sandwich, and then headed out to check out a thrift store I saw when I went walking the other day. It’s a cute little shop and I did find some stuff. A nice white fall jacket and a little mason jar to hold things. Then I continued to go to CVS to find a face mask that can help with the dryness of my face. I found one and bought it and then I went back to the residence hall. I’m really trying to get organized and I’m trying not to stress already. I’m about to write the holidays and stuff in my planner. lol Until next post!
